Talk: Mark Shipard Reveals the ‘10 Secrets of Leica Design’

As part of the special exhibition Leica Design at the Ernst Leitz Museum, Mark Shipard, Head of the Leica Design Department, will give a talk. Shipard has been shaping Leica's design vision since 2015 and has contributed to Leica products being appreciated worldwide for their elegance and functionality.

On 11 June at 7 p.m. at the Ernst Leitz Museum, Shipard will discuss both the historical development and future perspectives of Leica design and provide insights into the product development process in his talk ‘10 Secrets of Leica Design’. The talk will be held in English.

A particular focus of his talk will be the importance of the constant pursuit of innovation. Shipard will explain the challenge of finding the balance between Leica's traditional design heritage and a forward-looking perspective. This approach is central to creating products that are both aesthetically pleasing and user-friendly.

The lecture is a tribute to the Leica brand. It will captivate everyone who is interested in design, photography and Leica quality and would like to understand more about the philosophy behind the products. The lecture will take place at the Ernst Leitz Museum and is free of charge.

Born in Australia in 1971, Mark Shipard discovered his passion for design at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology. There he studied with a holistic approach that harmonises perfectly with Leica's philosophy: simplicity, reduction and a focus on the essentials. Before joining Leica, Shipard worked for renowned companies such as Audi. His expertise spans various industries, but his love of photography and design ultimately led him to Leica. Since 2010, he has designed significant camera models such as the M9 Titanium and the Leica TL. Under his leadership, the design department was established in Munich in 2015, which not only designs the external appearance of the products but also the entire Leica brand experience.
