„Nacht der Galerien und Museen“ in Wetzlar

07.06.24
  • On Friday, 7 June, the "Night of Galleries and Museums" will once again take place in Wetzlar. In addition to numerous other museums in the city, the Ernst Leitz Museum will also be open until midnight. Admission is free from 6 pm. Visitors can try their hand at the interactive museum's photo stations until midnight. Photos taken can be downloaded via app or printed in the museum shop and taken home as a souvenir.

The Ernst Leitz Museum is currently showing "Werner Bischof: Photographer, Artist, Contemporary Witness". The exhibition shows the work of Magnum photographer Werner Bischof (1916-1954) in its entirety. The exhibition documents Bischof's transformation from studio photographer to photojournalist. After graduating from the Zurich School of Arts and Crafts, he produced photographs for fashion, advertising and exhibition design in his studio for "photo-graphics". In addition to many now iconic images, there are also many unknown motifs and documents to discover that bear witness to the photographer's great humanity and precise eye.

In contrast, Emanuele Scorcelletti's exhibition "Elegia Fantastica" will be presented at the Leica Gallery Wetzlar. Scorcelletti, known for his impressive photographs of celebrities, demonstrates his versatility in an impressive way. In "Elegia Fantastica", Scorcelletti draws on his Italian roots and takes us on an intense black and white journey to places of the past in search of meaningful spaces. In doing so, he transforms his personal experiences into touching moments of collective memory.

An "art shuttle" will run free of charge for visitors to the "Night of Galleries and Museums" through Wetzlar on 7 June from 7 p.m. to midnight and will also stop at Leitz Park. The timetable can be found in the programme booklet.
