On four festive days during Advent, the Leica World transforms into a place full of discovery for children – and for everyone who wishes to share their sense of wonder. As the Ernst Leitz Museum shines in the lights of the holiday season, a special space opens up for young visitors as well: on two Fridays and two Saturdays during Advent, the Leica World invites guests to explore its creative stations – no registration required, just plenty of heart and imagination.
Light Catcher Ornaments
In the Ernst Leitz Museum, children will bend, thread, and decorate: using fine wire, iridescent glass beads, and sparkling crystals, they create their own light catcher ornaments – inspired by snowflakes and ice flowers. Under expert guidance, small works of art emerge that refract light into shimmering colors and cast magical reflections on walls and windows. Whether as tree decorations, window ornaments, or heartfelt gifts – these sparkling creations bring a touch of winter magic to life.
Fridays, November 21 and December 12, from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Ernst Leitz Museum.
Christmas Cards with Photograms
In the Leica Photo Studio, photography takes on a touch of magic: here, mysterious images are created without a camera. Using light-sensitive paper, stencils, and small objects, children design imaginative shadow images – so-called photograms. After exposure and development, the pictures are colorfully painted, lovingly decorated, and mounted on cardstock to become unique Christmas cards. The result is a collection of creative greetings that delight both the eye and the heart.
Saturdays, November 22 and December 13, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Leica Photo Studio.
The creative program is designed for children aged around seven and above, accompanied by their families. The craft stations are open and flexible, allowing for spontaneous participation. All activities are included in the regular museum admission. Families are welcome to drop by, join in, and linger – whether for ten minutes or an entire hour. Visitors wearing a Christmas sweater will receive free admission.
The festively decorated photo spots throughout the museum also invite guests to pause and capture the moment: with their own smartphones, families can take cheerful snapshots – perfect for the family gallery or as a digital holiday greeting.
