  • Immerse yourself in the fascinating world of the 1920s and experience a special reading of “Zebras in the Snow.” On Friday, November 15, the Ernst Leitz Museum invites you to an unforgettable evening where the author Florian Wacker will personally read from his book. The event starts at 7 PM, and tickets cost 9 euros. Let yourself be enchanted by the story of the photographer Ella Burmeister and her Leica. The Leica, known for its precision and quality, plays a central role in the narrative, uniquely connecting art and friendship.

“Zebras in the Snow” by Florian Wacker is a gripping historical novel that takes readers on a fascinating journey into the 1920s. The New York art historian Richard Kugelman comes across a mysterious photo of his mother, taken by the talented photographer Ella Burmeister, during his research. What makes this photo so special is not just the subject but also the tool used to capture it: a Leica camera.

Ella Burmeister, a passionate artist, uses her camera to capture the vibrant energy and hidden stories of the 1920s. Her photographs are more than just images – they are windows into a bygone world, full of secrets and emotions. Through her lens, Ella documents not only the outer beauty of her surroundings but also the inner struggles and triumphs of the people she photographs.

As Richard delves deeper into the story, he discovers the close friendship between Ella and his mother, two women who had to find their own way in a time of change and uncertainty. The Leica becomes a symbol of Ella’s artistic freedom and her ability to see and capture the world in her own unique way.

The tension rises as Richard learns more about the past and uncovers the secrets hidden in the photographs. What role did the camera play in Ella’s life? What stories do the pictures really tell? And how does all this influence Richard’s own life and understanding of art and history?

“Zebras in the Snow” is a captivating tale of friendship, art, and the power of memory that grips the reader from the first to the last page. The reading at the Ernst Leitz Museum begins at 7 PM, with doors opening at 6:30 PM. Tickets can be purchased via the button above and cost 9 euros per person. You can buy Florian Wacker’s novel in our museum shop and have it signed by him afterward.

This event will be conducted in German.
