Emanuele Scorcelletti: Elegia Fantastica

23.05.24 - 22.09.24 Leica Galerie Wetzlar
  • Discover the world through the unique lens of Emanuele Scorcelletti, a master of photography, who enchants us in the fascinating exhibition “Elegia Fantastica” at the Leica Gallery Wetzlar. This exhibition is not only a tribute to the places that have shaped Scorcelletti but also a profound reflection on the relationships he has built with them. “Elegia Fantastica” is a poetic composition consisting of two groups of works: “Memories” and “Visions,” which together form a refined elegy.

Scorcelletti, known for his impressive shots of celebrities, showcases his versatility in a remarkable way in this exhibition. From quiet series that highlight his love for horses and his talent as a landscape and street photographer, to surprisingly creative image ideas that merge different worlds, Scorcelletti offers a wide range of visual experiences.

In “Elegia Fantastica,” Scorcelletti taps into his Italian roots and takes us on an intense black-and-white journey to places of the past, in search of meaningful spaces. In doing so, he transforms his personal experiences into touching moments of collective memory. The “Memories” group celebrates everyday life in a visual language reminiscent of great photographers like Mario Giacomelli or Henri Cartier-Bresson, while “Visions” transitions into abstract, light-filled realms, with a focus on blur.

The exhibition at the Leica Gallery Wetzlar is a journey that begins melancholically and movingly and then unfolds passionately and sublimely. Join us on this visual journey and experience the world through the fascinating eyes of Scorcelletti.

      Über den Fotografen

Emanuele Scorcelletti was born in 1964 in Luxembourg, and his roots are embedded in the rich cultural landscapes of the Italian regions of Marche and Friuli. At the tender age of six, he discovered his passion for photography thanks to his first camera, a gift from his mother. His academic journey led him to the Institut national de radioélectricité et cinématographie (INRACI) in Brussels, where he refined his craft.

Scorcelletti’s professional career began at the prestigious Gamma agency in Paris, where he worked from 1989 to 2009. Today, he is known as a freelance photographer, whose works can be found in magazines, advertising campaigns, and the fashion world. His ability to capture the glamour of the moment was recognized in 2003 with the prestigious World Press Photo Award in the Arts and Culture category when he photographed Sharon Stone on the red carpet in Cannes. However, Scorcelletti is more than just a chronicler of the beautiful and the rich. His commitment to social projects and his series that explore the connection between humans, the environment, and nature testify to his deep connection with societal issues.

The Italian Cultural Institute in Cologne has significantly contributed to the transportation of the images from Italy to Wetzlar for the exhibition “Elegia Fantastica” by Emanuele Scorcelletti, with its generous support.
