"Night of Galleries and Museums" in Wetzlar Ernst-Leitz-Museum
-
On Friday, May 16,
Wetzlar will once again host the “Night of Galleries and Museums.” Among the
many participating museums, the Ernst Leitz Museum will remain open until
midnight, offering free admission from 6 PM onwards. Visitors can explore the
interactive museum’s photo stations, capturing their own images, which can be
downloaded via an app or printed in the museum shop as unique keepsakes.
Currently, the
Ernst Leitz Museum is showcasing the exhibition “The Magic of the Streets:
Masterpieces of Street Photography from the Leica Archive.” This exhibition
highlights one of the most exciting, diverse, and ever-evolving genres of
photography, featuring over 100 iconic and newly discovered images from the
Leica Archive. With works by more than 50 photographers, the exhibition offers
a compelling visual journey through the history of street photography,
presenting both legendary shots and fresh discoveries from around the world.
Additionally,
the Leica Gallery Wetzlar is presenting two further exhibitions:
“The Good Image:
A Brief History of Leica Archive Proofs” – This captivating collection of
photographs and objects offers a first-ever glimpse into the rich photographic
archives of Leica. The Leica Archive is not only the company’s memory but also
a treasure trove of stories waiting to be explored. Alongside classic framed
works, some of the collected "proofs of performance" are displayed in
their original form on index cards, providing a unique material insight into
the archive’s diverse history.
“70 Years of
Leica M” – This special exhibition takes visitors on a journey through the
history of the Leica M, revealing why this legendary camera has been an
essential tool for generations of photographers. It is a tribute to the
extraordinary legacy of the Leica M and the artists who have shaped its story.
More than just a camera, the Leica M represents a creative lifestyle—a camera
with character, designed for those who dare to capture the world from their own
perspective.
To make the most
of the evening, a free "Art Shuttle" will operate on May 16 from 7 PM
to midnight, transporting visitors between the participating venues, including
Leitz-Park. The shuttle schedule can be found in the official event program. -
